Marc Hammoud

Hello there! My name is Marc, and I’m delighted to have you on my personal blog. Here, I’ll share some information about myself, so you can get to know me better. Feel free to let me know what you’d like to read or any suggestions you have.

Let’s begin with my profession: I manage several projects, primarily in the field of IT.

Now, if you’re curious about my background story, it starts in Lebanon. I was born in 1973 after three older brothers, and later, three more brothers joined our family. Growing up in Lebanon during a long-lasting war from 1975 to 1989 was quite challenging.

On a brighter note, I was fortunate to come from a family that placed great importance on education. Education is highly valued in Lebanese society, and my parents made significant investments in our schooling. I received a French education until 1992, when I enrolled at the American University of Beirut. In 1995, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Faculty of Health Sciences, majoring in Medical Laboratory Technology (now known as Medical Lab Sciences). Those were 22 challenging years spent in Lebanon.

Thank you for being here, and I look forward to sharing more with you on this blog.

In 1995, I relocated to Liverpool, UK, but soon realized that pursuing a Ph.D. there was financially challenging. So, in 1996, I made the decision to move to Switzerland, known for its generosity in offering free education to non-nationals. At the esteemed University of Geneva, with its rich scientific history, I conducted research for my master’s degree in Biology. This faculty was the birthplace of the discovery of restriction enzymes and the development of electron microscopy techniques. I proudly graduated in 1998.

Computers have always ignited my passion. Following my master’s degree, I worked for various IT companies in Switzerland and at the United Nations in Geneva until 2015. That marks 20 years of my life spent in Switzerland!

But where is home, you may ask? Well, it’s a complex question…

In 2015, I moved to London, UK, where I worked for different private and public organizations, eventually landing a position at the British Department of Health. However, my nomadic nature led me to Germany in 2018. Specifically, I settled in Gifhorn, near Hanover, within the beautiful Braunschweiger Land, not far from the Netherlands or Denmark! And then, as fate would have it, I met someone who changed my life. I am truly blessed.

In 2020, I returned to Switzerland, the place that holds a special significance for me.

Now, let’s talk about my greatest joys—my two daughters, Marie (born in 2005) and Leena (born in 2011). They are the center of my universe, and their happiness means everything to me.

During my leisure time, you’ll often find me engrossed in books. Reading is my ultimate passion, and I indulge in it whenever I can. I carry books with me everywhere, whether it’s a physical copy or on my mobile phone or tablet. In situations where reading is not possible, like when driving, I enjoy listening to audio books and engaging talk shows, such as the incredible BBC – Hard Talk program. I save the files on my SD card in my Skoda Kodiaq SUV, which makes long trips and traffic jams much more enjoyable.

Beyond reading, I have developed skills as a public speaker. Since the 1980s, I’ve received special training in public speaking, and over the years, I’ve had countless opportunities to refine my abilities. In 2008, I was introduced to Toastmasters, an organization that captivated me with its well-organized meetings, valuable feedback, impromptu speeches, and evaluations. I joined three separate clubs in Geneva, swiftly earning the title of “Competent Communicator.” Even now, I occasionally visit local Toastmasters clubs in my current location.

Speaking engagements have granted me the honor and prestige of presenting at incredible conferences, stages, and meetings. To learn more about my speaking engagements, feel free to explore my Speaker page on this site.

Writing is another passion of mine. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my thoughts through written words. During my time at the UN in Geneva, I contributed to the UN Special magazine, which reached thousands of readers in the diplomatic world.

Presently, I primarily write and publish on LinkedIn. You can find updated direct links to my LinkedIn articles on my Author page as well. To stay up to date with my latest activities, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.
